Romanians claim that polenta, cozonac or sarmalele are specific to Romanian cuisine. In reality, if we look a little at Wikipedia and other culinary history books, they are taken from foreigners. And I find it embarrassing to assume / attribute everything that is not yours. But Romanians are champions of such a thing.
Mamaliga: all Romanians say on TV that Mamaliga is the emblem of the Romanian nation and that no one makes polenta better than us. We acted as if we had invented the concept of preparing corn from corn and boiling it and combining it with cheese, sour cream, sausages, sarmale, etc.
That porridge prepared from corn originating in Central America, prepared by Hungarians, Swiss, Austrians, Croats, Serbs, Bulgarians, Brazilians, Argentines, Ukrainians, Venezuelans and Mexicans. Let me also say that the concept of "porridge" is inherited from the ancient Romans.
As the Romanian countries imported corn with great difficulty in order to give it a "tribute" to the Ottomans, obviously the Turks made the first experiments, preparing the Malay and putting it to boil.
And guess who were the first Europeans to make this porridge from Malay: Greek peasants in the seventeenth century.
Mamaliga would have been prepared on the Romanian territory by the Hungarians from Transylvania, being the first to document the arrival of corn in Timisoara.
