In Bucovina, groups of carolers gather in advance in groups of six people and choose a leader who according to tradition must be a perfect organizer and with impeccable moral conduct.
They then dress up in traditional folk costumes and go caroling on Christmas Eve. They are rewarded by the hosts with apples, nuts, rolls, cakes or money. Christmas carols from Bucovina are learned and transmitted orally from generation to generation.
Group of carolers.
Today, the tradition preserved from the elders is continued by groups known as "Stephen's, new soldiers"
In addition to carols, on Christmas Eve, young people organize short skits announcing the Nativity of Christ at their homes.
