What do you think he brought new in the field of Romanian literature?
I think that this momentary disadvantage, I mean the difficult moment of the beginning and affirmation of each of those who are part of this promotion, as you call it, was in the end an advantage. The artist is an unrepeatable loner and this uniqueness marks his existence from the beginning. The fact that we each fought to impose ourselves made us stronger and helped us to discover our voice, to shape our individual destiny. A promotion formed by artistic individuals not affirmed in a group or coming out from under the leg of a dictatorial mentor, be he literary, in an era of a strong gregarious spirit and communist collectivism, is a proof of spiritual vitality.
Now, I would like to tell you something personal, which somehow seems to contradict your question about promotion 70, which is that I never felt part of any promotion. Maybe just in terms of chronology. And that's because this promotion was not a generation of creation. In order for this to happen, we should have been marked by more or less tangible aesthetic concerns and have a philosophical field in which to find ourselves. The vicissitudes of the years in which we started and wrote, the censorship in publishing houses, newsrooms, the Council of Culture, the ideological pursuit of communist propaganda coming on all possible channels, the security surveillance of any meetings, group discussions, altered our communication, mutilated the books, they diverted our thinking from aesthetic to political and survival, stealing an extremely precious thing, lost forever for Romanian literature.
