I can barely remember my first day of school, but I remember the feelings. I have the vivid memory of my school uniform getting ironed the night before and my mom smiling and telling me this is the first step to becoming a beautiful person, as education is the most important virtue. I went inside stepping with my right leg as my grandmother instructed me to, frightened and nervous, while I handed the flowers to my teacher. The other kids seemed friendly, but I didn’t have the courage to talk to any of them until they began first. There was a girl I barely remember who, so scared of letting her mom go home, started crying. Now I think of how much we grow and how fast time passes. My mom was looking at me smiling proudly and winking at me, while I winked and smiled back. That day I smiled continuously and I was excited, although nervous, to go back again, socialize and learn.
