Your choice depends you and the kind of traveler you are..
Are you adventurous, independent or like to strike out on your own? Speak any other languages?
Do you prefer a more formal guided experience? Would you be traveling solo? Are you male or female? (depending on where you plan to travel, females sometimes are at a greater risk of harm or disrespect.)
Both types of travel have benefits/drawbacks.
I have done package tours and they can be great if going somewhere that you don't much about…they can also be boring too regimented and limit your free time to explore some place interesting…
Going off your own can be great as long as you have some idea of getting around the area you’re exploring…another thing I should mention is your health…can you get around on your own or do you have mobility issues?
Finally are you cruising or flying in?
If cruising you can choose among the options from cruise ship,or arrange your own private tour..
What I did not like about a few of the ships tour packages was the cruise ships actually has to sign off on where you are taken and the menu at the restaurants you are eating..in Monte Carlo we were at this beautiful little french bistro on one of the side streets and we were eating roast chicken and tater tots…
Don't get me wrong it was very good, but it was still roast chicken and tater tots…i wanted something more regionally appropriate…and we were rushed to get back to the bus..
Now I know there are time constraints the tours have to keep to in order to get you back to ship in a timely manner, but I just think there are are more interesting venues they could put together.
If you are flying in,you take advantage of the hotel concierge to arrange any trips or tours,or go off on your own..
Privately arranged tours can be done online via various websites that are safe and helpful… whichever you choose, have a memorable trip.
