- 4. Write a paragraph (8-10 lines) about a distant or a recent past experience that had a positive effect on you and influenced you in some way. You should mention: who you met, what was it that affected you and the emotions you felt after the encounter.
I had a colleague about three or four years ago, we were working for the same online education project together and we had become friends. However, when I was promoted to a higher rank than him, he got angry and started to find ways to get revenge on me, looking for potential mistakes, gossiping around, inventing ugly stories about me. I kept a distance between us and I continued to support him and the other colleagues at the same time, without taking any position against the words he said about me, without trying to influence my colleagues either. I had decided to let them think whatever they wanted.
When the project leader was replaced, the new one immediately realized how revengeful and dishonest he was and eliminated him completely from our team, no matter how much I supported his staying because I appreciated his ability to work hard, in spite of his awful behaviour.
Although it was a difficult period for everyone, having met him and having known him better has had a positive impact on me, because almost all my colleagues have started to understand step by step what kind of person I really am, that I am there for each of them when they need a kind word, strong support, a smile. Moreover, his unfriendly behaviour has shown me that when we are positive, honest and forgiving, we feel happier about the others around and about ourselves.
